Boil rinsed black eyed peas in chicken broth for 2 minutes then set aside.
Cook the bacon crumbles and place on a paper towel to drain the excess oil.
Saute the onion and garlic until soft and fragrant.
Add water and scrape the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon. Stir in spices.
Continue adding spices and seasonings. Bring to a boil.
Add in the black eyed peas and cooked bacon crumbles.
