Ingredients

  • 12 Hawaiian rolls 1 package
  • 1 pound black forest ham slices
  • 12 slices Swiss cheese
  • 20 ounces canned pineapple slices drained with 2 Tablespoons pineapple juice reserved
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and spray a 9x13 inch pan with nonstick cooking spray.

  • Cut the Hawaiian rolls in half and place the bottom halves in the pan.

  • Place the ham on top of the bottom halves of the rolls.

  • Make the marinade. In a small bowl, combine the pineapple juice, brown sugar, soy sauce, ginger, and garlic. Brush over the pineapple slices. Keep the remaining sauce for brushing over the top buns.

  • Heat a grill pan or cast iron pan over medium high heat. Place the pineapple slices in the hot pan. Grill each side of the pineapple slices for 1 minute or until grill marks are visible.

  • Cut the pineapple slices in half and lay over the sliced ham.

  • Layer the cheese over the pineapple.

  • Place the top buns over the pineapple.

  • Add the melted butter and parsley to the remaining marinade. Brush over the tops of the buns.

  • Tent a piece of foil over the rolls and place in the oven.
  • Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until cheese is melted. Remove the foil and bake an additional 5 minutes until lightly browned.
  • Serve with chips, carrots and celery, or any other side of your choice.
