Easy Banana Split Dump Cake Recipe
Sometimes, simple recipes made quickly with store-bought ingredients are the perfect fix for my sweet tooth. This banana split dump cake is a great example! It’s similar to a cobbler, where you have a layer of filling, covered by a layer of cake. Essentially, you place the filling along the bottom of the baking pan, then dump cake mix on top of it, bake, and eat! It’s the easiest form of cake making there is, and it always tastes amazing.
I have a soft spot for dump cakes, and this Banana Split Dump Cake recipe is one of my favorites! It’s gobbled up at parties, family get-togethers, and even just a Wednesday night in with my husband. It doesn’t get easier or more delicious than this. This is one of those recipes that’s hard to mess up, and it’s just as hard not to eat it all at once! I like to add whipped cream or a little bit of ice cream on top.
Tips for Beginners
- Any cake mix works. You can use white, vanilla, or yellow cake mix.
- Frozen fruit is an option. You can use frozen strawberries and/or pineapple. Be sure to thaw before using and pat dry to remove any excess moisture.
- Any type of milk works. I used skim milk, but whole milk will also work.
- Do not stir. Once you’ve layered the fruit with the pudding/cake mix, do not stir. The cake is meant to be layered.

How to Make Banana Split Dump Cake Step by Step
Get the oven going and prepare the pan: Preheat the oven to 350°F and spray a 9×13-inch baking pan with nonstick spray. Set aside.
Make the cake portion: Combine a 3.4 oz box of pudding mix with 1¾ cups milk in a large bowl. Whisk until fully combined. Use a large spoon or whisk to mix in a 15.25 oz cake and mix until fully incorporated and smooth. The batter will be thick, which is fine. Stir ½ cup of chocolate chips. Set aside.
Prepare the fruit: In another large bowl, mix 1 cup fresh strawberries, 2 bananas, 1 cup fresh pineapple, and ¼ cup sugar. Stir to combine and let macerate for at least 5 minutes.
Layer the cake in the pan: Pour the macerated fruit into a thin layer in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Top with the cake mix/pudding mixture and spread with a spatula or spoon to create a smooth top.
Bake: Bake for 45-60 minutes, or until the cake is completely cooked through (when a toothpick inserted in comes out clean).

Serve: Top with whipped cream ( optional), serve, and enjoy.
How to Store
To store leftovers, let the cake cool completely. The easiest way to store it is to cover the baking dish with plastic wrap or aluminum foil, and then refrigerate it. When ready to serve again, you can serve it cold, or pop it back in the oven to reheat. You could also reheat individual pieces in the microwave, and it tastes just as good (and it’s a lot easier).

Serving Suggestions
I love serving this cake warm, topped with whipped cream and extra slices of banana. But if I don’t have any whipped cream, I’ll add a scoop of red velvet ice cream, other pieces of fruit, or even drizzle it with chocolate sauce.

Absolutely delicious! My son’s scout troop made this in a dutch oven for a contest at camp. Hands down it was the winner! The boys helped cut the fruit & mixed everything in plastic bags instead of bowls for easy cleanup. Substituted Hershey bars for chocolate chips. Will be using the recipe for our upcoming events. Sooooo good!!!
Has anyone actually tried this? I too, an wondering what whether to use canned pineapple or if it has to be fresh. Also wondering about the texture and if it is like a sauce on the bottom of the cake or more dry texture?
