The Best BBQ Baked Beans
Baked beans are a staple at all my summer BBQs, and this BBQ baked beans casserole is my favorite. It’s got so much more flavor than what you get from a can. I take ground beef, add barbecue sauce, pork and beans, a few seasonings, and then bake it with crispy bacon on top. It’s my take on a summertime classic, and believe me, it’s delicious.
This baked bean casserole makes an appearance whenever we’re having guests, whether it be a casual get-together or a holiday celebration. This recipe only requires a few minutes of prep, and then it bakes for about an hour, so I can tend to the other recipes on my list.
Tips for Beginners
- Don’t cook the bacon too long. You want it cooked through but not too crisp, as it will continue to crisp up in the oven.
- Discard any excess fat from the beef. I kept about 2 tablespoons in the pan to cook the veggies. If you keep too much, your casserole may end up greasy.
- Let the beans rest after cooking. This allows the sauce to thicken, which will make it easier to serve.

Hi there, you can add it in after you’ve added the bean mixture into the prepared baking dish.
This looks and sounds sooo good. I noticed that you used a cast iron skillet in your photos but you asked us to prepare a 9×13 ????. Do you bake this for the same amount of time in cast iron and does your cast iron need to preheat in the oven ??!! Have you guessed that I am new to cooking with cast iron, lol ?!!
Thank you ????✌
