Chocolate Pretzels

Instead of buying one of my favorite sweet and salty snacks from the store, I like making these amazing chocolatey pretzels at home. The sweet taste of chocolate complements the slightly salty taste of pretzels, making them a perfect pair.

I like to change out the toppings of these chocolate-covered pretzels to match the holiday or birthday theme. I’ll use red and green for Christmas or crushed candy bars for a fun birthday party treat. Sometimes I’ll swap the chocolate for white chocolate and make white chocolate pretzels instead!

Equipment

  • Kitchen Scale (optional)
  • Baking Sheet

  • crushed M&M's
  • melted white chocolate
  • graham cracker crumbs

Instructions

  • Line a baking sheet with wax paper and set aside.
  • In a medium-sized microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate in the microwave on high. Start with 1 minute in the microwave, then remove the bowl and stir the chocolate well. • Dip the pretzels, one at a time, into the melted chocolate. Use a fork to dip each pretzel into the chocolate and lightly tap the fork on side of the bowl to shake off the excess chocolate. You can also use a toothpick to remove any excess chocolate from the holes of the pretzels.
    3 cups mini pretzels
  • Place each dipped pretzel on the lined baking sheet and sprinkle with desired toppings. Repeat steps with remaining pretzels.

  • Once all pretzels are coated, place the baking sheet of pretzels into the refrigerator for about 15 minutes so chocolate hardens and sets.

Becky’s Tips

  • Add your favorite sprinkles to these pretzels to give them a special touch. If you don’t have sprinkles, you can use chopped nuts, crushed candy bars, or mini chocolate chips.
  • You can also use a double boiler on the stovetop to melt the chocolate, but this will take longer.

How to Make Chocolate Covered Pretzels Step by Step

Prepare a baking sheet: Line a baking sheet with wax paper and set aside.

Melted chocolate in a glass bowl.

Melt the chocolate: In a medium-sized microwave-safe bowl, melt 8 ounces of chocolate in the microwave on high. Start with 1 minute in the microwave, then remove the bowl and stir the chocolate well. If the chocolate still isn’t melted, continue heating and stirring in 30-second intervals until the chocolate is completely melted.

Dip the pretzels: Use a fork to dip each pretzel into the chocolate and lightly tap the fork on the side of the bowl to shake off the excess chocolate. You can also use a toothpick to remove any excess chocolate from the holes of the pretzels.

Top the pretzels: Place each dipped pretzel on the lined baking sheet and sprinkle with desired toppings. Repeat steps with remaining pretzels.

Chill and enjoy: Once all pretzels are coated, place the baking sheet of pretzels into the refrigerator for about 15 minutes so the chocolate hardens and sets and then enjoy.

How to Store

Store leftover chocolate covered pretzels in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. I do not recommend freezing these pretzels, as it could cause them to go stale.

Serving Suggestions

These pretzels are the perfect one-bite snack! Serve them at holidays, parties, or movie nights. They make a great addition to any dessert display alongside a batch of no-bake buckeye candies, classic loaded Rice Krispies, or for more chocolate munchies, I like to prepare chocolate popcorn or Oreo balls.
