Greek Salad Recipe

Some recipes stand the test of time for a reason—they’re just that delicious! This Traditional Greek Salad is so bright and flavorful, and every bite feels like a taste of the Mediterranean.

Juicy tomatoes, crisp peppers, creamy feta, salty kalamata olives, and crunchy onions are drizzled with a fresh, herby citrus dressing that ties everything together. I love how simple the ingredients are, yet the flavors are bold and satisfying. I often serve it as a hearty side, but it’s just as good as a light main dish, especially on warm days when I’m craving something fresh and easy.

Tips For Beginners

  • Double the ingredients. If you want to feed 12-14 people as a side dish, double the ingredients.
  • Use good quality ingredients. This is a salad that really lets simple ingredients shine. The higher quality your ingredients are, the better your salad will taste.
  • Use sliced feta. A traditional Greek Salad is topped with sliced feta, not crumbled, so if you want to serve a more authentic salad, add slices of feta instead of crumbles.
  • Green peppers are traditional. If you want to use red, yellow, orange, or a combination, feel free to do so.
  • Use kalamata olives. These are the most common olives used, but if you don’t have any, use whatever you like.
  • Change the ratio of ingredients. If you love feta cheese, for example, feel free to add more. Use more cucumbers and fewer tomatoes if you want.

How to Store

I would not recommend making this Greek salad too far in advance. It will stay nice for a couple of hours if kept in the fridge.

If you really want to make it the day before, prepare everything but don´t add the dressing and the feta. Put these on right before serving. I think it tastes better fresh.

Serving Suggestions

For a light lunch, I’ll serve this salad with a fresh bowl of gazpacho and some homemade focaccia on the side, along with creamy, tangy tzatziki for dipping and drizzling.

I’ve made this recipe many times and I love it. But you forgot the garlic. It’s so much better with regular or elephant garlic.

I absolutely LOVE Greek salad. Being, originally, from Michigan, any Greek salad you ordered always had lettuce and sliced beets. If you like beets, you’ve got to try it on a Greek salad. This looks terrific. I can’t wait to make it.
