This Banana Strawberry Cream Cheese is one of my favorite ways to change up a morning bagel. I take a block of plain cream cheese and combine it with powdered sugar, fresh strawberries, and a ripe banana to create a smooth, fruity spread perfect for bagels, toast, English muffins, and more. It comes together in minutes, is a great alternative to regular cream cheese, and makes for a colorful addition to my weekend brunch buffet.

The Spread Every Bagel Needs

There’s nothing quite like a simple bagel with cream cheese for a quick and easy breakfast. In my house, mornings don’t leave time for anything fancy, but this spread is something I can easily serve. In just minutes, I can combine plain cream cheese, juicy fresh strawberries, a ripe banana, and a few tablespoons of powdered sugar to create a fun and flavorful spread that takes our morning bagel to a whole new level.

I’ll never go back to store-bought flavored cream cheese, as this recipe is just so easy to prepare and tastes way better. This recipe makes enough for a genrous spread on 8 bagels.

Tips for Beginners

  • Use plain cream cheese. Plain cream cheese provides a neutral, creamy base that lets the banana and strawberry flavors shine through. Regular block cream cheese, whipped cream cheese, and even low-fat cream cheese all work well in this recipe. Avoid flavored varieties, especially savory options, as their flavors can clash with the sweet fruit.
  • Bring cream cheese to room-temperature. If using block cream cheese, let it sit out for 30–60 minutes before mixing. Cold cream cheese can be difficult to mix and may leave small chunks throughout the spread.
  • Ripe bananas add more sweetness. Use bananas that are yellow with a few brown or black spots on the peel. As bananas ripen, their starches convert to sugars, giving the spread a naturally sweeter flavor and a softer texture that blends more easily into the cream cheese.

Becky’s Tips

  • Plain, whipped, or block cream cheese works, as does low-fat. Don’t use savory-flavored cream cheese.

How to Store

Once you make this banana strawberry cream cheese spread, store it in an airtight container and keep it in the refrigerator. Since it contains fresh strawberries and bananas, I recommend keeping it for about 1 week. It won’t necessarily go bad after that, but the flavor, ingredients, and texture will hold best for up to 1 week.

Serving Suggestions

This cream cheese spread is ideal for a bagel breakfast on a busy morning with some sausage or bacon. It also makes a great option to spread on crackers, pita, or an English muffin as an afternoon snack.

I love preparing weekend brunch for my family, and this cream cheese recipe always makes an appearance to spread over bagels and toast. To round things out, I’ll prepare a savory and hearty eggs-Benedict casserole along with a loaf of cozy cinnamon roll bread, and, of course, I’ll need a cup of bulletproof coffee to help me power through.
