Cheese Dog Treats are so easy to make and fun to give to your pooch! You only need 4 inexpensive ingredients and less than an hour of your time to make these crunchy, cheesy dog treats. These are sure to get some tails wagging!
Why We Love This Cheese Dog Treats Recipe
- Easy. These treats utilize just 4 ingredients and take less than an hour from start to finish.
- Healthy. Made with natural ingredients, you can feel good about giving these treats to your puppy.
- Pup Approved. My dogs love these tasty cheese biscuits, and I’m sure yours will as well!
Variations on Cheese Treats for Dogs
I like using whole wheat flour for dog biscuits for the extra nutritional value. Other types of flour are fine to use, as long as you know your dog isn’t allergic. You can also use virtually any type of cheese (except blue!), so try low-fat mozzarella or Swiss.

How to Store
Once your cheese biscuits have cooled, place them in an airtight container and they will keep well for around 2 months.
How to Freeze
This recipe makes a batch of 60 treats, so it’s a great idea to freeze them. Just pop them into a container or freezer bag and they will keep well for 3-4 months. Thaw the cheesy dog biscuits at room temperature before giving to your pooch.
Dogs can have almost any kind of cheese in moderation (avoid blue-veined cheeses!). Lower-fat cheeses tend to be better for them, so you can opt for a low-fat cheddar here.
These are treats and should be given as such. They shouldn’t replace your dogs’ main meals. One or two a day is plenty.
Yes, all-purpose flour works just fine! I personally prefer whole wheat flour for the nutritional benefits, but all-purpose is safe as long as your dog isn’t allergic.
Yes! We’re using ingredients that are safe for both dogs and people. While I wouldn’t exactly recommend snacking on these, if a little one gets their hands on them, they’ll be okay!

5-Star Review
“I loved this recipe! But better yet so did my dogs! I used the dough attachment on my Ninja food processor, threw all the ingredients in and out came the perfect dough! The dough was so easy to work with! This will definitely be my go to recipe for my dog treats from now on!” – Kathy
My four beautiful dogs absolutely love them. And you know what? I kinda do as well!
Love to hear it, Dave!
Can I grind up oatmeal and use oatmeal flour instead of whole wheat
We’ve not tried that before, but we think it could work!
Yes, you can. Wheat to oat is a 1:1 ratio. I never use wheat flour, I always use oat just as a personal preference (I have a pet treat business). Just avoid using AP flour if you can for pet treats. Nutritionally, there’s no point in using it. You can use almost any flour as long as you calculate the ratio differences.
I saw a recipe using pumpkin puree. I’m thinking oatmeal and pumpkin would make a healthy snack. What about sweet potatoes? I’m just considering what is in my pantry and what is healthy for my diabetic husband. What would be a nono other than onion? Penelope is waiting…
We do have a sweet potato dog treat recipe (click here!)
I did this and they worked out just fine.
Becky I would love to make these but just wondering if I used all purpose flour would it make a difference?
You can absolutely use all-purpose flour. Wheat flour is more nutritionally complete for dogs, though!
What kind of shredded cheese should i use in this recipe? IS any kind fine?
We recommend cheddar in this recipe, but you could use a different cheese if you prefer (as long as it doesn’t have any added ingredients or spices). We like to shred from a block, but pre-shredded also works well.
Can all purpose flour be used?
Yes, but it’s not as nutritionally valuable!
Apserlutly amazing, Dogs loved them so much… i also wouldd like to ask a Question. Can the Dough be frozen in advance? Thank you.
Those look great, Lisa! You can absolutely freeze the dough!
Just made 1/2 batch in new paw shaped silicone molds. My Rusty highly approves!
My little bichon loves these. Made them for the first time. Dough is very sticky but manageable with extra flour. Very easy recipe!
So glad your pup loves them!
Great recipe and sooo easy!
Thanks for sharing, Ronnie!
Just waiting for the last tray to come out of the oven. There are lots of dogs in our family so I know these will be a hit!
Looks amazing!!
