Why We Love This Cheese Dog Treats Recipe
- Easy. These treats utilize just 4 ingredients and take less than an hour from start to finish.

- Pup Approved. My dogs love these tasty cheese biscuits, and I’m sure yours will as well!
Variations on Cheese Treats for Dogs
I like using whole wheat flour for dog biscuits for the extra nutritional value. Other types of flour are fine to use, as long as you know your dog isn’t allergic. You can also use virtually any type of cheese (except blue!), so try low-fat mozzarella or Swiss.

How to Store
Once your cheese biscuits have cooled, place them in an airtight container and they will keep well for around 2 months.
How to Freeze
This recipe makes a batch of 60 treats, so it’s a great idea to freeze them. Just pop them into a container or freezer bag and they will keep well for 3-4 months. Thaw the cheesy dog biscuits at room temperature before giving to your pooch.
Dogs can have almost any kind of cheese in moderation (avoid blue-veined cheeses!). Lower-fat cheeses tend to be better for them, so you can opt for a low-fat cheddar here.
These are treats and should be given as such. They shouldn’t replace your dogs’ main meals. One or two a day is plenty.
Yes, all-purpose flour works just fine! I personally prefer whole wheat flour for the nutritional benefits, but all-purpose is safe as long as your dog isn’t allergic.
Yes! We’re using ingredients that are safe for both dogs and people. While I wouldn’t exactly recommend snacking on these, if a little one gets their hands on them, they’ll be okay!

5-Star Review
“I loved this recipe! But better yet so did my dogs! I used the dough attachment on my Ninja food processor, threw all the ingredients in and out came the perfect dough! The dough was so easy to work with! This will definitely be my go to recipe for my dog treats from now on!” – Kathy
Hi…can you put this dough into silicone dogbone shaped baking containers too…and how long would you bake them for…same amt. Of time ?
I have not tried that yet!
Just made a batch in silicone molds. Baked 20 minutes, then turned off oven & let them rest another 10-15 minutes. Not too crunchy, just right!
Made these for my sweet St. Bernard! Loved them❤️
So cute!!
Do you think you could substitute ground oatmeal in place of the flour?
It may be tricky to form a dough but you can try it out!
I used half gluten free flour half oat flour and added some shredded ham. Instant favourite (also rolled out and cut with a pizza cutter instead of a cookie cutter).
Thanks so much for sharing, Janet! Those look great!
Can a silicone mold be used instead of rolling them out and using a cookie cutter??
As long as it can be baked.
Made heart shape biscuits. So far my sister-in-laws pups loved them ready to share with other pup friends Thanks
That’s awesome!
My doggie gave them to the family doggies as a Christmas gift.
Sounds wonderful!
I was really excited to try this recipe for our dogs. Unfortunately a week after baking them they started to mildew in the airtight container. They did not keep for two months. It was a week. Very disappointed.
I am sorry it didn’t work!
I always keep my homemade treats frozen- and just a couple in her cookie jar at a time.
They probably need a bit longer in the oven
Does it have to be whole wheat flour ?
Just make sure whatever you use, is safe for your pup!
Could I use broth instead of water to add more flavor?
It is best to stick with water as dogs aren’t too picky about if it has enough flavor!
Is it possible to substitute the cheddar cheese with some other cheese, like processed cheese or mozzarella? It’s just that cheddar is really costly and difficult to find in my area. Suggestions for any other substitutes will also be appreciated!
You can do that!
